"Strong Innovator": Austria in 1st place for intellectual property

Austria has maintained its 6th place in the newly published "European Innovation Scoreboard 2024" of the EU Commission. It remains a "Strong Innovator" and is ranked first in the sub-dimension "Intellectual Assets". This dimension covers various aspects of intellectual property rights, measured by patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), trade mark applications and design applications.

The European Innovation Scoreboard provides information on the research and innovation performance of countries and highlights different aspects, which are summarised in 12 innovation categories. As in the previous year, Austria ranks first in intellectual property.

In the overall ranking, Denmark is the "Innovation Leader", just ahead of Sweden, followed by Finland and the Netherlands. Belgium and Austria lead the group of "Strong Innovators".
